ICMIF provides training for members at every level. The Federation has a commitment to its members to assist in training for not only cooperative and mutual principles but also global management practices. There are currently three main training products:
Morotania
A computer-based simulation that examines the key issues in the setting up and running of a new insurance company. More than 1,000 individuals have gone through the Morotania training program. It is currently available in six languages, Arabic, English, French, Latvian, Russian and Spanish.
Morotania is ideal for helping in the development of managers and potential managers because it encourages the use of key
management skills, such as decision-making, team building, communication and leadership in an insurance environment. It works at many diff erent levels and has been successfully used by participants with a range of skill levels, varying from those with limited insurance knowledge up to senior insurance executives.
The simulation creates an enjoyable but challenging learning environment. Even the most experienced insurance practitioners have said they acquired a great deal of insight from it.
ReAction
A computer-based simulation for insurer and reinsurer interaction. Originally developed in 1996 as “SEMINAR”, this simulation was redesigned and renamed ReAction in April 2000. It models the reinsurance process and involves dividing participants into teams of insurers and reinsurers, with each team employing its own powerful computer-planning model to help make decisions. It is invaluable for learning a number of different skills essential to the management process, such as team building, decision-making, communication and negotiation.
Atlas
This is a strategic business simulation that examines many of the key issues inherent in the management of a life office. Working in teams, delegates run an established mid-sized life company in a developing European market place. Run for up to five decision years, performance is assessed on a “Balanced Scorecard” of financial and non-financial measures, with an embedded value model to decide the winning team.
Takaful Simulation
Over the last couple of years simulations have been run for the insurance and Takaful sectors in Tunisia, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Algeria and Lebanon. Plans are now being made to incorporate the different Takaful models and produce a Takaful simulation which could also be the basis of a future Takaful management training course run by ICMIF.
