This year, Canadian ICMIF member The Co-operators has once again been recognised by the Kincentric Best Employer list as a top Canadian organisation that demonstrates strong performance in employee engagement, agility, engaging leadership and talent focus. In addition, the Sovereign General Insurance Company (Sovereign Insurance), a wholly owned subsidiary of Co-operators General Insurance Company, has also been added to the list for 2019.

ICMIF member Achmea (Netherlands) has been named as the second highest placed insurer in a ranking by the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO). The ranking looked at the 80 largest pension funds and insurers in the Netherlands to examine just how sustainable their investments are, looking specifically at the impact of climate change.

Last week, ICMIF member Securian Financial (USA) was officially proclaimed a “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” company at a ceremonial event on Thursday 21 November in the city of St. Paul where the organisation is based. The Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz, leaders of the Minnesota National Guard, Securian Financial service members and veterans, and other distinguished guests celebrated the official proclamation at the event.

More than 50 mutual and cooperative insurer companies from 37 nations will converge on Auckland this week to address key topics impacting the sector and the communities they support – including emerging socio-economic risks, environmental challenges and industry leadership.

These issues and more will be discussed at the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) biennial conference–with New Zealand-owned insurer FMG supporting the conference as host.  The theme of the conference is the Future of Mutuality.

ICMIF member, The Association of Financial Mutuals (AFM), a UK-based trade association which represents mutual and friendly insurers, announced yesterday that it has appointed Jane Nelson, Chief Executive of the Oddfellows as its new chair. The announcement was made at the AFM’s annual general meeting which took place during the association’s 2019 Conference.

Nelson replaces Andy Chapman, Chairman at The Exeter. Chapman had been Chair of the AFM since 2016. Nelson was previously Vice Chair of the AFM.

ICMIF member CARD Mutual Benefit Association (CARD MBA, the Philippines) last month celebrated its 20th anniversary of empowering and giving hope to Filipino families through microinsurance in an event which took place on 6 September 2019 in San Pablo City, Laguna.

The anniversary was attended by Insurance Commissioner Dennis B. Funa (7th from left) and RIMANSI Executive Director Junjay E. Perez (2nd from left).
