In a feature length article in Insurance Day ICMIF member Ecclesiastical have been highlighted as one of the top ten corporate donors in the UK. This is a remarkable achievement for an organisation of such moderate size as it ranks above so many of the UK's largest companies.
Ecclesiastical CEO Michael Tripp attributes the organisations strong belief in Corporate Social Responsibility to the organisations long history of charitable giving which is now embedded in its culture. Ecclesiastical is different from many organisations in the fact that it is owned by a charity called Allchurches Trust. This further engrains the belief in charitable giving into the organisation as Ecclesiastical's very structure ensures such a mentality. The organisation provides the Allchurches Trust with an income each year and in 2009 this came to an impressive £8.5 million.
But on top of the obligation to the Allchurches Trust, Ecclesiastical also contributes independently to other good causes. These are often non-Christian in nature and contribute to the markets and environments that Ecclesiastical operate in. The Canadian branch for example supports the Aga Khan Foundation and works in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency which works towards poverty alleviation. Workers in UK this have already donated over 900 hours this year to give hands-on help to a number of causes including the Children's Society and English Heritage.
