EIOPA establishes new stakeholder groups

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has announced the membership of its two stakeholder groups, the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group and the Occupational Pension Stakeholder Group.

Prominent amongst insurance industry representatives on the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group is Asmo Olavi Kalpala, Chairman and President of Tapiola, Finland and currently President of AMICE. In addition Gerard van Olphen from the Netherlands a past Board Member of ICMIF in his capacity as then CEO of SNS REAAL is named together with Mr Yanick Bonnet, France, Co-Chair of the AMICE Solvency II Task Force.

Named on the Occupational Pension Stakeholder Group is Gunnar Andersson of Sweden who is an AMICE Board Member and Chair of that organisation's EcFin working group.

The purpose of these groups which include up to thirty members each is to facilitate EIOPA’s consultation with stakeholders in Europe on issues such as regulatory and implementing technical standards in addition to the guidelines and recommendations that apply to the insurance and occupational pensions industry.

The new Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group is currently composed of ten industry representatives, five consumers, eight users of insurance and reinsurance services, two representatives of trade unions and five independent academics.

The new Occupational Pension Stakeholder Group is currently composed of ten industry representatives, three beneficiaries and consumers, five professional users, seven employees/employer representatives and five independent academics.

It is expected that both stakeholder groups will convene for the first time at the beginning of the second quarter of this year.
