Why trust sits at the heart of the ICMIF network

Trust has always been fundamental to the mutual and cooperative insurance model. Long before it became a headline issue in business and society, mutual insurers were built on the simple promise of protection, solidarity and long-term commitment to policyholders and communities. Today, in a world shaped by uncertainty, misinformation and rapidly shifting risk landscapes, that promise matters more than ever.

This is why the theme of Trusted to Deliver sits at the heart of the ICMIF Conference agenda. Against a backdrop of intensifying global uncertainty and a rapidly evolving insurance environment, our discussions will focus on how mutual and cooperative insurers are future-proofing their businesses to continue delivering on the trust placed in them, not just today, but for generations to come. From ensuring the ongoing relevance of the mutual model to strengthening resilience in the face of emerging global risks, the agenda reflects the shared strategic challenges and opportunities facing our membership.

Drawing on a long heritage of providing reliable protection and purpose-led value to all stakeholders, ICMIF members are uniquely positioned to lead in this environment. Across the Conference programme, sessions will explore how members are unlocking new opportunities for sustainable growth, strategic transformation and innovation, while remaining firmly anchored in their purpose. From scaling AI responsibly, to implementing member-centric operating models, and driving mutual value through sustainability, ICMIF members are translating ambition into action. This balance between evolution and values is what allows mutual insurers to grow with confidence and credibility in increasingly competitive markets.

However, trust is not only something mutual insurers deliver to policyholders; it is also the foundation on which the ICMIF network itself is built. Across plenary sessions, networking discussions and social activities, the Conference creates space for open dialogue, peer learning and constructive challenge. These trusted exchanges strengthen our collective intelligence, enabling leaders to learn from one another’s experiences, test assumptions and collaborate on forward-looking solutions to shared challenges.

This is where the role of ICMIF is both distinctive and deeply important. As a network, our responsibility is to create and protect an environment where trust can thrive, where members feel able to share openly, debate honestly and collaborate meaningfully. And as a Secretariat, we must be trusted to deliver real value in return: convening the right conversations, providing practical insight, and supporting members as they navigate increasingly complex and competitive local markets.

Being Trusted to deliver is not a slogan. It is a commitment; to our members, to their policyholders, and to the principles that underpin the mutual and cooperative model. It is what gives our network its strength, and what enables mutual insurers to continue playing a vital role in building more resilient, inclusive and sustainable societies.

As our sector faces profound change, that trust that is carefully built, actively maintained and consistently delivered upon, will remain our greatest collective advantage.
