ICMIF member CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative has mobilised relief and recovery efforts across Southern Mindanao following the powerful earthquake that struck Sarangani province and surrounding areas in the Philippines on 8 June 2026.
The earthquake caused significant damage across parts of Southern Mindanao, affecting communities, homes and infrastructure, and prompting an urgent humanitarian response.
In the days immediately following the disaster, CLIMBS joined forces with the National Federation of Cooperatives in the Philippines (NAFECOOP), the Cooperative College of the Philippines and Coop Chamber PH to gather information on affected individuals and coordinate assistance for members of both member and non-member cooperatives.
Appealing for solidarity across the cooperative sector, the organisations appealed for donations of funds, food, drinking water, clothing, blankets, hygiene kits and other essential supplies to support those impacted by the earthquake.
In a joint message of solidarity and hope issued by CLIMBS soon after the earthquake, President and CEO Noel Raboy and Chairperson Judge Antonio Manue A. Alcantara (retired) reaffirmed the cooperative insurer’s commitment to supporting affected communities.
“Following the recent earthquake that affected Sarangani and surrounding provinces, CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative is actively assessing reports from affected areas, evaluating insured losses, and coordinating support efforts for our member-owners, policyholders, employees, and partner communities,” they said.
The leaders added that CLIMBS’ response is guided by the cooperative principles of Cooperation Among Cooperatives and Concern for Community, underlining its commitment to providing compassionate assistance and contributing to recovery and resilience efforts.
Through its CLIMBS CARES programme and with support from Kusgan Volunteers Inc., the cooperative subsequently mobilised volunteers and resources to prepare and distribute emergency relief supplies to affected families.
The initiative delivered 1,003 relief packs, including 1,000 sacks of five-kilogram rice, 1,000 bottles of drinking water and essential hygiene kits to help address the immediate needs of communities impacted by the disaster.
CLIMBS said the humanitarian effort was made possible through the generosity of donors, partners, volunteers and supporters from across its network, with contributions providing not only practical assistance but also a message of hope and solidarity to families beginning the process of recovery and rebuilding.
As relief efforts continue, CLIMBS remains open to receiving donations to extend assistance to more affected families and communities across Southern Mindanao. More information can be found here.
