Dutch ICMIF member Achmea has joined the UN Global Compact, through which companies all over the world are encouraged to pursue sustainable and socially responsible policies. With the signing of the Global Compact, Achmea says it is further strengthening its commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The UN Global Compact is a broad coalition of companies, organisations and governments worldwide that have embedded sustainability in their strategy, in line with the ten principles of the Compact and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Achmea says its sustainability ambitions focus on reducing the insurer’s carbon footprint, promoting diversity and inclusion, and improving customer engagement in the field of sustainability. In doing so, Achmea will be on track to achieve its interim goals for 2030 and exceed them in a number of areas, such as making the real estate portfolio more sustainable and reducing the emissions of its investment portfolio. Achmea says participation in the UN Global Compact will further strengthen these efforts by providing access to a global network of companies and organisations which are committed to sustainable development. By joining the UN Global Compact, Achmea commits itself to, among other things, respecting human rights, providing good working conditions, protecting the environment and combating corruption.
The UN Global Compact has been in existence since 2000 and is the world’s largest initiative for sustainability and corporate social responsibility in business. The initiative has over 17,000 member companies in 160 plus countries.
