ICMIF has warmly welcomed Reale Mutua (Italy) to its global Federation of mutual and cooperative insurers, following the organisation’s decision to join as a full member from 2026.

The Turin-based insurer’s move marks an important milestone both for Reale Mutua and for ICMIF’s growing international network, reinforcing the Federation’s reach across Europe and its role as the leading global community for mutual and cooperative insurance.

Reale Mutua’s membership reflects a strong alignment with ICMIF’s values and principles, particularly its commitment to the mutual model, sustainability and responsible business. The company has described its decision as consistent with its ongoing Benefit path, its ESG positioning, and its broader internationalisation strategy as set out in its Strategic Plan.

Reale Mutua joins ICMIF’s global ecosystem of more than 200 member organisations across over 60 countries, collectively representing over USD 238 billion in premiums and around USD 1.75 trillion in assets. Through its membership, the Italian insurer will have the opportunity to engage with fellow mutual and cooperative leaders, exchange best practices, both access and share strategic benchmarks, and collaborate on shared challenges including digital transformation and sustainability.

ICMIF Chief Executive Liz Green emphasised the significance of Reale Mutua joining the Federation, saying: “On behalf of ICMIF, our Board of Directors and our growing network of around 230 member organisations, I am delighted to welcome Reale Mutua and its General Manager, Luca Filippone, to our global Federation.”

She added: “As part of our global network, Reale Mutua will be able to draw on the insight, experience and collaboration that exists across our trusted membership, while we are equally confident that they will contribute valuable knowledge, perspectives and best practice that will enrich our wider community of mutual and cooperative insurers.”

Reale Mutua’s leadership has also framed the move as a natural evolution of its strategy and identity as a mutual and Benefit Corporation. Luca Filippone, General Manager of Reale Group, commented: “Reale Mutua’s entry into ICMIF as a full member represents a natural and strategic step in our growth and international expansion path. Being part of the Federation means engaging with leading mutual insurers worldwide, gaining access to distinctive expertise, and actively contributing to the development of mutual insurance. It is a step that reinforces our commitment as a Benefit Corporation, our focus on sustainability, and our determination to continue creating value for members, customers and communities.”
