Earlier this month, ICMIF member RAC (Australia) launched a new purpose, vision and mission, part of a wider transformation which will shape its future as an organisation, and guide its common goal for the greater good of over one million members.

Since its foundation in 1905, the needs of its members and the Western Australian community have guided RAC WA (or the Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia). As a purpose-led member organisation, RAC does not have any shareholders, and so reinvests its profits for the better of its members and the community.

RAC WA’s new purpose, vision and mission is based around the idea that, together with its members, it will continue to be the driving force to create a better Western Australia.

Its purpose: We are the driving force for a better Western Australia.

Its vision: 2030: A safer, sustainable and connected future for all Western Australians.

Its mission: Delivering great member services and experiences, whilst inspiring positive community change that makes life better in Western Australia.

From RAC WA’s origins as a motoring club, it has grown to a diverse organisation of over 1,400 employees serving more than one million members with a range of products and services.

Some of the initiatives RAC WA contributes to include the sponsorship of the RAC Rescue helicopters and their life saving missions; delivering road safety education to over half a million Western Australian children; and investing in Automated Vehicle Program trials (including the RAC Intellibus®), which are helping to better understand how driverless technology can shape our future.

On behalf of its members, RAC campaigns for safe, sustainable and accessible transport, as well as more vibrant and connected communities, through its Risky Roads campaign, driver distraction campaign and advocating to government on motoring taxes, infrastructure needs and safety.

The organisations also gives back through its Member Benefits programme which gives RAC members discounts on RAC products and services, plus savings on fuel, shopping and more.

At the 2019 ICMIF Biennial Conference (held in Auckland, New Zealand), Andrew O’Hara, CEO of RAC Insurance – the insurance arm of RAC WA – presented how its members are part of the DNA of RAC and are at the heart of its transformation as an organisation. Bringing its values to life is critical for its future, as it looks to build a culture which drives the organisation to find better and innovative solutions to enhance value for its members.

Members wishing to watch a recording of Andrew’s presentation and receive access to the full conference video sessions should contact ICMIF.
