LocalTapiola Central Finland, one of ICMIF member LocalTapiola’s regional companies, has donated EUR 200,000 to the University of Jyväskylä for the development of coronavirus test analysis. The donation will significantly increase Finland’s coronavirus testing capacity, as the situation evolves.

The donation will increase PCR testing, the most commonly used coronavirus tests currently in Finland, which can be used to reliably verify coronavirus disease immediately, regardless of the stage of the disease. Tests can be used to verify, for example, the exposure of healthcare professionals to coronavirus.

“As a life insurer, we want to do everything we can to ease the difficult situation. We hope that our donation will also encourage other companies to cooperate with universities in a similar way, so that we can increase testing capacity as quickly as possible,” said Teemu Toivanen, CEO of LocalTapiola Central Finland.

The LocalTapiola Group has also donated EUR 1 million to support coronavirus relief around Finland directed to the Finnish Red Cross for the launch of a nationwide helpline.
