Location – Heredia and San José
The Marriot Hacienda Belen hotel is located in the Heredia Province, 10km away from the capital of the country, San José. The province of Heredia is undoubtedly one of the most diverse in Costa Rica, where you'll be able to enjoy an infinite range of activities.
Heredia is an ideal destination for discovering the country's indigenous customs and, above all, for escaping the stresses of cosmopolitan cities.
Generally considered more as a stopover than a destination, the city of San José, next door to Heredia, is also exciting and full of Victorian mansions. Costa Rica's bustling capital was built on the coffee trade.
Airport
Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) is the main airport of San José and is situated just a short 15-minute drive from your hotel, the Marriott Hacienda Belén in Heredia. The airport is modern and convenient, offering shops, cafes, and duty-free stores. From there, you can easily catch a taxi or pre-arranged hotel shuttle to the Marriott.
Transport
Staying in Heredia, you are well-positioned to explore both San José and the surrounding areas. Taxis (red with yellow triangles) and ride-hailing apps like Uber are great for getting around. If you are planning to explore further, such as nearby coffee plantations or the Poás Volcano, we suggest you consider renting a car or booking a guided tour.
Food
While at the Marriott Hacienda Belén, you can enjoy its on-site restaurants offering delicious Costa Rican and international cuisine. For local flavour, venture out to Heredia’s cozy cafes and eateries to try dishes like gallo pinto (a traditional breakfast of rice and beans) or a hearty plate of the tradiational, local dish casado. Don’t miss a visit to the Mercado Central in nearby San José for authentic street food and snacks. For fine dining and trendy restaurants, the nearby Escazú and Escalante neighborhoods are worth the trip.
