Swedish ICMIF member Folksam has announced a new partnership with the Swedish Handball Federation (Svenska Handbollförbundet, SHF). As of 1 October 2025, Folksam has become the official insurance partner for SHF, providing accident insurance for all licensed handball players in clubs affiliated with the Federation.
Through this new collaboration, the Swedish Handball Federation joins a strong community of national sports federations that already have Folksam as their insurance partner. In total, Folksam partners with more than 50 specialist sports federations and insures almost two million active athletes across Sweden. This extensive involvement reflects Folksam’s long-term commitment to supporting the development of Swedish sport and promoting safety and sustainability for athletes of all levels.
“We are very proud and happy to be able to offer Swedish handball a strong insurance solution going forward,” said Björn Kjellsson, Head of Folksam’s Sports Business. “Handball engages many people and, as the sports insurance company, we at Folksam are very much looking forward to offering Swedish handball players the best insurance coverage on the market. To ensure sustainable sports participation throughout life, it is important that players receive the right assessment of injuries from sports specialists – something we can now offer through our Advice and Care for Sports Injuries service, which is included in the player insurance.”
The insurance will cover all licensed handball players during training, matches, and travel to and from these activities. According to the Swedish Handball Federation, the change in insurance partner forms part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the best possible terms and services for its member clubs and players.
“We are very pleased to welcome Folksam as our new insurance partner,” said Robert Wedberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Handball Federation. “This partnership gives us the opportunity to offer our players and clubs even safer conditions and a more developed service. Folksam’s strong position in the world of sports and their long-term commitment to Swedish sports make them the natural partner for us going forward.”
