As of 1 January 2026, ICMIF member Folksam (Sweden) has become the official insurance partner of the Swedish Handball Federation as part of a three-year sponsorship and cooperation agreement, as announced last year.
As part of the agreement, Folksam will also become an official partner for USM, the Swedish Youth Championship for players between the ages of 14–18.
“We are very happy about the new collaboration,” said Björn Kjellsson, responsible for Folksam’s Sports Business. “Folksam is the sports insurance company, we want to be part of and contribute to a strong handball movement in Sweden with increased inclusion and increased opportunities for joy in sports. Not least through the partnership with USM, it is a fantastic tournament that means an enormous amount to young people, leaders and associations across the country,” he continued.
Stefan Lövgren, CEO of the Svenska Handbollslandslaget AB (SHLAB), the commercial arm of the Swedish Handball Federation, praised Folksam for its support of Swedish handball.
“It feels great that Folksam steps in and supports Swedish handball,” he said. “Folksam has a very attractive and appreciated insurance solution, which in combination with its long experience of working with injury prevention activities and research in sports makes the collaboration feel extra good,” he added.
Handball is a popular sport in Sweden, with an even split of female and male registered players. Prior to the recent agreement, Folksam provided accident insurance for active players and coaches in clubs affiliated with the Swedish Handball Federation.
Robert Wedberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Handball Federation, also welcomed the partnership.
“This collaboration strengthens both security and quality in Swedish handball,” he said. “Folksam has extensive experience of working with sports, insurance and injury prevention efforts and shares our view of responsibility, long-term thinking and inclusion. Together, we create better conditions for children, young people and adults to play handball – from breadth to elite and throughout their lives,” he added.
