ICMIF Sustainability Summit 2024

Wednesday 19 June, 2024

The ICMIF Sustainability Summit aims to help enhance members’ understanding of the challenges and opportunities around sustainability and ESG and how to embed them in your business strategy.

The event brings together leaders from member organisations around the world to discuss and share best practices around the key themes of sustainable investments, resilience and underwriting. The Summit will look ahead to the various sustainability challenges which our industry is likely to face and will seek to share solutions to create better businesses and well as new opportunities.

At last year's Summit, ICMIF members came together to underscore their collective dedication to embedding sustainability deeply within their business frameworks, focusing on structured approaches aligned with global standards such as the UN SDGs, and integrating ESG factors across their operations.

The discussions highlighted the necessity of stakeholder engagement, accountability, adaptability, and the development of resilient investment strategies that address financial, societal, and environmental challenges.

Moreover, the Summit shed light on the hurdles in actualising sustainable commitments, the catalytic role of government policies and innovative investments, and the importance of collaborative efforts to foster sustainable change. The evolving standards of sustainability reporting, particularly the emergence of initiatives like the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and others, were also emphasised, underscoring a shared commitment to transparency and a strategic, long-term approach to sustainability.

During the 2024 Sustainability Summit, building on last year's success, we will focus on examples of tangible actions and achievements by ICMIF members to start a discussion on ways to collaborate with a sustainable purpose.

Session topics are likely to include:

  • Commit to net-zero emissions by 2050, transition planning from 2023.
  • Implement measurable resilience strategies aligned with global benchmarks.
  • Integrate impact metrics into underwriting processes to enhance economic growth.
  • Focus investments on sustainable and resilient infrastructure, green bonds, and significant climate initiatives.
  • Adopt standardised sustainability reporting, conforming to international benchmarks and regulatory requirements for unified industry reporting.
