As part of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, ICMIF Supporting Member Peak Re has entered into a strategic partnership with CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to nurturing and expanding active communities. CCIL has a focus on Hong Kong’s youth and students, encouraging them to mitigate climate innovation change and develop sustainable, low-carbon lifestyles through innovation, education and action.

Peak Re, with the support of CCIL, kicked off a two-year campaign with the “2030 SDGs Game”. This world simulation game has become a powerful social phenomenon, reaching more than 250,000 people in over 20 countries worldwide. This experiential simulation game exposed Peak Re’s employees and leaders to the tensions and trade-offs of achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Collaborating in teams, participants were each given a goal and were each challenged to come up with different actions to achieve that goal between now and 2030.

Speaking about the collaboration with CCIL, Peak Re’s Chief Executive Officer, Franz Josef Hahn, said: “At Peak Re, we fully embrace sustainability and are committed to collaborating with stakeholders to raise awareness and make positive changes. We realise the achievement of ESG objectives is a long journey, full of challenges and opportunities. That is why we have entered a two-year engagement with CarbonCare InnoLab, a Hong Kong-based NGO, to promote ESG within the company to build understanding and commitment to sustainable insurance. We kicked it off with a game that enabled our employees to test how to achieve sustainable goals despite tensions and trade-offs.”

Over the course of the two-year campaign, Peak Re and CCIL will jointly organise a number of activities to make a positive impact on society, including ESG engagement activities, an energy awareness challenge and the Hack 4 Sustainability event. Peak Re says this collaboration is a testament to its commitment to ESG.
