Canadian mutual insurer and ICMIF member Peel Mutual Insurance Company has entered into a partnership with Guidewire to support its ongoing digital transformation strategy, aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening decision-making and enhancing service for policyholders.

The move forms part of Peel Mutual’s long-term approach to modernising its core operations and building greater agility as the insurance landscape continues to evolve. By adopting cloud-based technology and expanding its use of data and artificial intelligence (AI), the insurer aims to streamline internal processes, reduce administrative burden and enable teams to focus more closely on delivering value to members and policyholders.

Peel Mutual says the investment will help it make more informed, data-driven decisions in real time, supporting both day-to-day operations and longer-term strategic planning. The organisation also expects the changes to improve responsiveness and create a stronger foundation for future innovation.

Commenting on the partnership, Peel Mutual Chief Operating Officer Matt LeMaire said the initiative represents an important step in the organisation’s evolution.

“Moving to a cloud-based environment is a significant step in Peel Mutual’s long-term strategy, enabling us to accelerate innovation and unlock new opportunities,” he said. “This transition provides the agility and insights we need to better serve our policyholders and position the organisation for sustainable growth.”

A key focus of the transformation is improving the experience of policyholders. Peel Mutual expects that greater automation and more efficient processes will support faster service, particularly in areas such as underwriting and claims, while also enabling more personalised engagement over time.

The insurer also sees artificial intelligence as a tool to support employees by reducing repetitive administrative tasks and allowing teams to focus on higher-value, customer-facing work.

The initiative reflects a broader trend among a number of ICMIF members to invest in digital capabilities that strengthen operational resilience while enhancing member value. For Peel Mutual, the partnership is part of a wider commitment to ensuring the organisation remains well positioned to meet changing customer expectations and deliver long-term value to the communities it serves.
