ICMIF member Seguros Rivadavia (Argentina) was one of the major winners at the XV International Conference on Insurance Fraud, held on 10 December.

Organised by the Centre for Experimentation and Road Safety (CESVI) Argentina, the conference featured an awards ceremony in which Seguros Rivadavia received the top honour in the automotive category.

The award recognised Seguros Rivadavia’s recent investigation that uncovered a network dedicated to committing fraud against the company.

The investigation was triggered by a routine audit process, which revealed that the fraudulent claims were not backed by expert medical reports, featured the same sponsoring lawyers, and were all managed by a single claims handler.

As part of the investigation, Seguros Rivadavia interviewed hospital and bank staff, compared endorsements and bank cheques and examined the relationship between injured third parties and the sponsoring lawyers.

The investigation confirmed irregularities which enabled the insurer to initiate criminal proceedings against those involved. At the same time, Seguros Rivadavia implemented measures to prevent future internal fraud by comprehensively restructuring its processes for handling third-party claims.

“This important recognition sets a precedent and reaffirms Rivadavia Seguros’ commitment to the fight against fraud in the insurance activity, actively collaborating in the search to mitigate this scourge for the entire community,” the insurer said.
