US ICMIF member Shelter Insurance has been recognised as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion”, earning a score of 80 on the 2022 Disability Equality Index (DEI), the world’s most comprehensive benchmarking tool for the Fortune 1000 and Am Law 200 to measure disability workplace inclusion against competitors. By taking the DEI , companies can demonstrate stakeholder commitment to disability inclusion and equality, as well as broader social issues.

Top-scoring businesses—soring 80 or higher—are recognised as “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion” and are and are provided with opportunities to promote their score, including using the DEI logo in their corporate communications, PR and marketing channels.

Randa Rawlins, President and CEO of Shelter Insurance Companies said, “Supporting those with diverse backgrounds has been an ongoing initiative for Shelter. We know that including those with diverse backgrounds expands our workforce and opens the doors to more ideas than we would have if we were not inclusive.”

The DEI takes about 40 hours to complete each year and is completed online. It is modeled off the Corporate Equality Index that highlights LGBTQ-inclusive workplace policies. It was launched in 2015 by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and is acknowledged today as the most robust disability inclusion assessment tool in business.

“The Disability Equality Index shines a spotlight on companies that believe they have a stake in creating a more equitable society for people with disabilities. It is a conduit for our work championing disability rights for the 60 million Americans with disabilities and knocking down barriers to employment, technology and healthcare, and we’re thrilled to see the progress being made today.” said Maria Town, President and CEO of AAPD.

Shelter Insurance also recognised for customer service in auto insurance

Shelter’s recognition as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” comes shortly after being ranked “Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Auto Insurers in the Central Region” for the fifth time by global data and analytics company J.D. Power in their 2022 US Auto Insurance Study.

The study is based on responses from auto insurance customers and was fielded in January-April 2022. This study asked customers to provide feedback about their experience with their auto insurance company in the following study factors (in alphabetical order): billing process and policy information; claims; interaction; policy offerings; and price. Shelter scored well across the factors and was ranked first in interaction, policy offerings, billing process and policy information.

“Receiving this award again is extremely important because it highlights the trust our customers place in us,” said Randa Rawlins. “We appreciate their positive responses to the J.D. Power survey. I’m grateful to all of our agents and employees for their continued hard work and focus on providing exceptional customer satisfaction.”
