Socieded de Seguros de Vida - cash free certification

ICMIF member Sociedad de Seguros de Vida has been awarded the “Entidad Libre de Efectivo” (“Cash-Free Entity”) certification by the Banco Central de Costa Rica, recognising its significant progress in digitalising payments and collections.

The certification forms part of a national programme led by the Central Bank to modernise financial transactions and reduce the use of cash across Costa Rica. Sociedad de Seguros de Vida received the recognition at an official event alongside other organisations that have successfully met the programme’s criteria.

The award highlights the cooperative insurer’s strong commitment to digital transformation, with more than 95% of its transactions now conducted through electronic channels. This milestone reflects a continued focus on improving efficiency, enhancing security, and delivering innovative services to its members.

“This certification is a very important milestone for our organisation. It represents the sustained effort we have made to modernise our processes, providing our members with more agile, secure solutions that meet today’s needs,” said Georgina Díaz, General Manager of Sociedad de Seguros de Vida.

“This recognition not only validates the path we have taken towards digital transformation, but also reinforces our vision for the future as a strong, reliable institution that remains close to its members. It motivates us to continue evolving and creating value across all our services,” added Elibeth Venegas, President of the organisation.

The organisation emphasised that this achievement marks an important step in an ongoing journey. As part of its strategy, Sociedad de Seguros de Vida will continue to progressively reduce the use of cash, with the aim of maintaining the certification while further strengthening the quality, security and efficiency of its operations.

With more than 105 years of history, the insurer noted that this milestone reflects the trust it has built with its members over time, as well as its ability to adapt to a changing environment and lead initiatives that contribute to national development.
