Agenda

The 2025 ICMIF/AMICE Insurance Stakeholders' Dialogue

4 December 2025, 14:00 – 17:00 CET (virtual event)

14:00 – 14:15

Macroeconomic update and global trends

SPEAKER:

    • Alexandra Stråberg, Chief Economist, Länsförsäkringar (Sweden)

14:15 – 14:40

Pensions

Last March, the European Commission launched its strategy for a savings and investment union (SIU), which aims to direct the savings of European households towards productive investments. This includes a review of existing European pension legislation to increase participation in supplementary pension schemes. It also includes the pan-European pension savings product (PEPP), which came into force in 2022 but has so far attracted only limited interest from institutional investors.

As long-term investors, insurers have a vital role to play to bridge the pension gap and propose effective solutions to provide an adequate retirement income.

SPEAKERS:

    • A European overview by Fabienne Zwagemakers, Manager, General & Personal Insurance, Insurance Europe
    • Lauri Saraste, Director, Development, Regulation & ESG, LocalTapiola (Finland)

14:40 – 15:05

Investments

The EU faces the challenge of ecological and digital transitions. These will require considerable funding, estimated at around EUR 1 trillion per year. The good news is that the EU has abundant private savings, although one third of these are held in bank deposits. It should be possible to channel these savings more effectively towards the long-term financing of the EU's real economy.
This session will explore some of the strategies developed for the use of private savings.

SPEAKERS:

    • Carlos Esquivias Escobar, Director of Personal Insurance and Tax Policy, UNESPA (Spain)
    • Clara Adiceom, Director, Life Strategy & Governance, Groupe Aéma (France)

15:05 – 15:30

Sustainable Finance

The European Union's sustainability agenda has developed rapidly over the past decade, with policies aimed at steering businesses towards climate neutrality, circularity and social accountability. In order to boost European competitiveness, the Commission has now shifted its focus to reducing regulatory burdens and simplifying European legislation, resulting in the EU simplification programme. This raises important questions. Will streamlining weaken sustainability goals or make EU policies more effective in practice? What do stakeholders, including insurers, who have incorporated ESG considerations into their sustainability initiatives and strategies think?

SPEAKERS:

    • Sébastien Godinot, Economist, European Policy Office, WWF
    • Luca Giordano, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Unipol Group (Italy)

15:30 – 15:50

Insurance in the AI era

The insurance industry stands at the threshold of a transformative era, driven by the rapid advancement and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). As we navigate this new landscape, it's clear that AI is not just a tool for incremental improvement but a catalyst for fundamental change.
This presentation, based on the recently published Insurance in the AI era report by the IBM Institute for Business Value, delves into the profound implications of AI on the insurance sector, offering insights gleaned from the latest survey data and industry trends. It serves as a timely guide for C-Suite leaders seeking to capitalise on the opportunities presented by this technological revolution.

SPEAKER:

    • Christian Bieck, IBM for Business Value, Global Research

15:50 – 16:15

Competitiveness

The EU’s competitiveness strategy relies on the financial services sector to channel investment, manage risk, and foster innovation. Insurance has already proven its vital role in supporting businesses and industry—but its impact goes beyond that.
We now turn the spotlight on consumers. How do mutual insurers identify and respond to evolving consumer needs? And how do they differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive market?
This discussion will explore the unique value mutual insurers bring to individuals and communities, and the strategies that set them apart.

SPEAKERS:

    • Moritz Schuman, Deputy CEO, German Insurance Association
    • Wouter Demeulenaere, Head of Business Development Life, Employee Benefits & Health, P&V Group (Belgium)
