Danish ICMIF member Sygeforsikring “danmark” has reported another year of strong growth and member support, paying out more than DKK 4 billion in subsidies to members during 2025 while also announcing a new round of health donations worth DKK 75 million for 2026.

The milestone comes as the insurer’s membership exceeded 2.8 million people for the first time, meaning that 47% of all publicly insured people in Denmark are also members of Sygeforsikring “danmark”. At the end of 2025, total membership stood at 2,839,859.

The organisation said it had continued to meet its long-standing ambition of returning at least 90% of members’ contributions in the form of subsidies for healthcare expenses such as dental treatment, medicines and other treatments. In 2025, the reimbursement ratio reached 98.4%, exceeding the board’s target.

Despite higher-than-budgeted subsidy payments leading to a technical result of minus DKK 70.45 million, the insurer says it recorded a positive investment result of DKK 327 million, contributing to an overall consolidated profit after tax of DKK 251 million.

The board of directors described the result as satisfactory, particularly as 2025 marked the first time the organisation had distributed more than DKK 4 billion in subsidies to members. Most subsidy categories also increased during the year.

Membership growth continued throughout 2025, with a net increase of 36,062 members, equivalent to growth of 1.3 and uptake of optional insurance products also increased. More than 100,000 members now hold one of the insurer’s surgery cover products, while child and travel insurance products grew by 7.3% and 7.1% respectively.

Premium income rose to DKK 4.1 billion in 2025, an increase of DKK 151 million compared to the previous year, driven by both membership growth and modest premium increases. Equity increased from DKK 7.2 billion to DKK 7.3 billion, corresponding to a solvency ratio of 290%.

Alongside its financial results, Sygeforsikring “danmark” also confirmed it is continuing its support for healthcare research, prevention and public information initiatives across Denmark through its Health Donations programme.

Following investment surpluses generated during 2025, the insurer has announced a new DKK 75 million funding round for 2026, with applications open to CVR-registered institutions, organisations, associations and professional environments based in Denmark. The application deadline is 1 July 2026.

The Health Donations programme supports initiatives focused on public health, health technology, and both somatic and mental health, with the aim of improving the future health of people across Denmark.

Since 2020, Sygeforsikring “danmark” has distributed approximately DKK 500 million through the programme. The organisation emphasised that the donations are financed through investment surpluses and do not affect member benefits, with the insurer continuing to return at least 90% of membership fees to members through healthcare subsidies.
